Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 101 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing, reading, and thinking on a weekly basis in an informal setting.

Reading the essay “The Book of The Dead” By Catherine Venable Moore was quite a challenge for me. It was really long and it took me a couple of days to actually finished it. The reason was due to the complex vocabulary within the essay. As a person whose English isn't my first language, many of the words were unknown to me. Sometimes, I had to read a paragraph multiple times to be able to understand the meaning of it. However, the essay was really enjoyable and I was really interested in the reading. The way that the author was describing the setting and how specific she was by doing it was pretty fascinating. Also, the way that she combined the past and the present into different paragraphs made it more engageable and understandable to read in the way that she's explaining everything for people that actually have no idea about many of the US background. In conclusión, although it was difficult for me to understand, it was really entertaining to read it.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this. I can see why you did well on the quiz. Sometimes it takes longer to read a text if it's especially difficulty. I'm glad you put in the extra work. I think the essay is worth it.
