Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 101 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing, reading, and thinking on a weekly basis in an informal setting.

While reading "The Book of the Dead", I felt hurt because of the tragic event that happened at the time. Workers in West Virginia dying because they were exposed to silica dust, lung cancer silicosis. Moore talked about the racial elements of how the Union Carbides treated black miners. The black workers who died because of the silica dust, didn't have graves in the cemetery like the white workers who died.
Varda, what is the significance of black workers not having graves?
